Mary was a positive and very creative person who I will miss. We worked together on a book Mary had written based on poems about the way children interpret the world. She asked to illustrate her whimiscal and equally humerious poems/stories. One particular poem was based on a Mother's trip to the shops, hoarding lots of clothes while her son stomps along impatient and clearly unamused.
One of my best memories includes going into Newport on the Isle of Wight with her grandson Bobby to do a live mini film for promoting the book. We had such a giggle as I dressed up as a busy 'Mum' character (Spring 2019) picking up handfuls of clothes from Next as poor Bobby acted the 'tired' annoyed child character , rolling his eyes at her expense! Mary filmed it giggling away at the scene unfolding while I am sure equally passers buys were wondering what we were up to! We had a lovely afternoon and a cup of tea and cake where we discussed creative ideas, Mary regaling many of her warm memories of her and Mick.
I used to love the creative dynamic between Mary and Mick- In the past Mary used to tell me she would get so into her song writing- dinner would be sometimes burnt! Even despite their creative differing opinions on occasion they would always reach a compromise. Whilst once rehearsing for a play Mary and I were involved with called 'Star Prize', Mary jocking changed the lyrics from song from 'Fathers and Daughters, that's just what they do' to 'Husband's and Wives' after her and Mick had a differing opnion. They both loved their music and you could see the creative bond!
She was such a kind colleague and friend and I am so grateful for her friendship and for believing in me.
I will miss you Mary and you will always be remembered as a beacon of light. Someone who refused to be ageist and taught me anyone can do anything in life if they put their mind to it!
Love Marina
